What is Ashura ?

In the month of Muharram 61 AH (approx. 20 October 680 AD), an event took place in Iraq at a place known as Kerbala on the bank of the river Euphrates. It seemed in those days insignificant from the historical point of view. A large army which had been mobilised by the Umayyad regime besieged a group of persons numbering less than a hundred and put them under pressure to pay allegiance to the Caliph of the time and submit to his authority. The smallgroup resisted and a severe battle took place in which they were all killed.

Ashura self-flagellation is forbidden in Islam

 

Self-flagellation is forbidden (Haram) in Islam. Great Shia scholars such as grand Ayatullah Khamenei who is the leader of Islamic Republic of Iran and Ayatullah Sistani, the Shia Leader in Iraq, have prohibited any self-mutilation such as self-flagellation with knives or chains (Tatbir) and even walking on fire. Imam Hussein went to Mecca and stayed there for four months. He visited different groups and wrote a lot of letters to Kufa, Basra, and to individuals. He went on a pilgrimage to Kaba and he visited the tombs of diseased predecessors; he went to the Aboutalib Cemetery and visited the graves of his great grandfather, Aboutaleb (A.S), and his great grandmother, Khadijeh (SA). He said his prayers right there.

Why Imam Hussain pbuh is not forgotten?

The one whose martyrdom, grief, pain, sorrows and children's captivity were all only for God will never fade out of the memories. Instead, by the pace of time and age his love, fascination, and charm will grow in the hearts of people. And each year the love and fascination of the people with respect to that "pure and chaste revolutionary" increases. Imaam Hussain (A.S.) spent 57 years of his prolific life for the sake of God's love and God's search. Many times he traveled, to the God's house for pilgrimage, on foot. He was very fond of prayers confessions and supplication talking intimately. So far so, that on the last night of his life, he asked for respite only that he might sit all alone and make confessions and supplications, to his God.

The Inferno of Husayn Love

قال النبیٌُّ (ص):

إن لقتل الحُسین حرارةٌ فی قلوب المؤمنین لا تبرد أبداً

The Holy Prophet (S) said:

Surely, there exists in the hearts of the Mu'mineen,

with respect to the martyrdom of Husayn (A.S.) [on day of Ashura],

 a heat that never subsides.

In Islam, saving human life and helping others against affliction are always enjoined. In the holy #QuranGod says, “Whosoever saves a human life, saves the life of the whole mankind” [5: 32].

The holy prophet Muhammad’s grandson, Imam Hussain (pbuh), is the one who gave his life to save the whole mankind. He saved Islam by his blood. He revive Islam, the last version of the religion sent by God to save the humanity.

Thus every year, Shi’ite Muslims across the globe donate blood on the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussain(PBUH) and all 72 of his companions on the day of Ashura.

23. Every time I try expressing Imam Husayn by words, I find these words are incapable to express themselves for him.. I said he is the right.. he is Al-kauthar(a river in heaven), .. I said he is the virtue. but I found him more than all of that. Then I supplicated to Allah to inspire me a word shows the reality of Husayn, and he inspired me to Husayn is Husayn and enough

هر زمان که سعی می کنم تا حسین را با کلمات بیان کنم، متوجه می شوم که این کلمات، قادر به توصیف او نیستند. گفتم که او حق است... او کوثر است... او با تقوا و فضیلت است... اما متوجه شدم که او بالاتر از همه ی اینهاست

به خدا متوسل شدم تا واژه ای را برای نشان دادن حسین به من بنمایاند. او به من الهام کرد که حسین، حسین است و بس

He was not an ordinary human being.

او یک انسان معمولی نبود .

His name was Hussein. 

 نامش حسین بود .

Hussein was the grandson of Muslims" holy prophet Muhammad.

 حسین نوه پیامبر ما مسلمانان محمد ص بود .

He stood up against oppressors and he is a role model for Muslims in sacrifice, freedom, liberty and resistance

او کسی بود که در برابر ستمگران ایستاد و در بین ما مسلمانان الگو فداکاری ، آزادی ، آزادگی و ایستادگی در برابر ظلم است.

We call him imam, imam means leader and rector.

ما او را امام میخوانیم . امام به معنی راهنما و پیشواست .

امام حسین (ع): هیهات منا الذله / ذلت از ما دور است

Imam Hussain pbuh : Far from us is Disgrace

He said: If you do not believe in religion and do not fear the Hereafter ,then at least be free from tyranny and arrogant.

او گفت:مرگ در راه عزّت جز زندگی جاوید، و زندگی با ذلّت جز مرگ بی حیات نیست.

He said:Death with dignity is eternal life and life of humiliation is Death.:
